Overview

Art Scott is no stranger to Church Music.   As a 1980 graduate of Liberty University, Art is diversified in his Musical Experiences.   He has a keen sense of programming Music that speaks to the heart and appeals to multi-generations.    He believes firmly in a balance between Sacred - Classical and Contemporary Christian Music.  With over 40 years experience, he can offer your congregation a refreshing change.   Music should uplift and encourage the soul.   People should always leave church caring a song in their heart.

He as directed choirs, served as a Choir Master at East Side Christian Church for nine consecutive years.   He has served many denominations including Baptist, Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Reformed Church of America (Crystal Cathedral / Robert Schueller Ministries), Methodist, Lutheran.

He has an impressive knowledge of Musical taste extending from Classical, Sacred repertoire to Contemporary Church Music.

Mr. Scott studied privately with the late Dr. Justin Colyar, classical pipe organ and twelve years of Piano study with Mr. David Ehrman (Liberty University professor; Mr. Ehrman is a graduate of Cincinnati Conservatory).

While finishing his degree at Liberty University, Mr. Scott traveled extensively through the United States in ministry teams.   He has performed in over 35 states, traveled over 100,000 miles, facilitated book and record sales, accompanied and sang in over 600 church and school concerts.

Inspiration in the choral world includes Mr. Maurice Allison, Don Neuen (USC / Hour of Power), David Randlett, Hugh Griffith and most recently, Mr. Dwayne Roberts (Second Baptist Church Music Director).

If you congregation needs an Interim Worship Director or a permanent relationship, he is open to both opportunities.   He is also available to assist with funerals, weddings and other special occasions.   He is reliable and consistent in provide well rehearsed and executed

MISSION STATEMENT:

I am seeking a well-balanced Church Ministry where God’s grace is present.  We all have issues and needs; through the teaching of the Word, building relationships, offering inspirational music, God can be magnified and His church edified and built up.

-Over 44+ years’ experience as a Worship / Music Director / Accompanist.

-Planning weekly rehearsals, worship and concerts.

-Planning seasonal music including cantatas, classical works.

-Experienced in leading vocalists and instrumentalists both solo and ensemble work.

-Competent skills in conducting, accompanying, directing small and medium size choirs and churches.

-College experience included traveling over 100,000 miles, 35 states within the US as accompanist and vocalist.   Handled book / record sales.  (Liberty University)

-Diverse skills in musical taste; Classical, Sacred, Contemporary, Jazz and Popular.

2017 - Present      Ministe of Music, All Peoples Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Los Angeles, CA
-Plan all Music for weekly Sunday service.    Collaborate with Senior Pastor with sermon topics and scriptures readings.
-Work with vocalists, instrumentalists, organizing key structures, rehearsing Praise Music including hymns, contemporary, creating a blended Worship experience.
-Plan seasonal Music.
-Available for special occasions including weddings, funerals.
-Maintained tuning of piano.
-Resouces include a vast repetoire, using printed scores, ab lib, chord charts; CCLI Select Songs.
-Transposition; able to play pieces at will in any key.  

2017 - 2018         Minister of Music, Second Baptist Church, Lake Forest Campus, CA

Coordinated a Praise Team and Instrumentalist for a main Worship and Praise Service Sunday am with 2 hour Saturday rehearsals.   Blended worship services include a mixture of 80% contemporary Christian Music with 20% hymns, traditional and sacred / classical music selections.    Assisted in training and collaborating with soloist, small ensembles, Praise Team on a week to week basis.
Produced weekly Power Point for all lyrics, assist with CCLI legal requirements with copyrights laws.

Train new and up and coming young people and helping them mature into great musicians and believers.
Coordinate creative Worship with staff pastors and main Music Director at Main Campus (Santa Ana, CA).
Ongoing efforts to improve music skills of lay volunteers.
Always working to increase repetoire and assist volunteers to engage new choir  /  praise team members.

1995 – 2017        Free Lance Church Musician, Orange and LA County

While working on my Master’s Degree (Counseling), I served many local congregations including Reformed Church of America (Crystal Cathedral), Lutheran, Methodist, Disciples of Christ and Episcopal churches.   I have directed choirs, worked with instrumentalists and vocalists, been involved in International TV productions (Hour of Power.org).   Experience includes choosing pieces, monitoring the flow of worship services and improving the worship experience.

I have also done substitute work for local churches, sometimes filling in at the last minute.  I have worked effectively with male and female ministers.

1985 – 1994             East Side Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Long Beach, CA

-Developed a total music program; small choir (8-10).

-Incorporated soloist and small ensembles.

-Booked other churches and schools for special music including Chapman and other universities.

-Introduced effective music and seasonal works.

-Choose all music for both choir and congregation.

-Introduced a new praise song book.

-Assisted in improving overall program, including staging and presentation skills to lay leaders.

-Developed a smooth transition awareness to services would be creative and inspiring.

-Meet monthly with pastors to collaborate future plans and improvement.
